ARTIST STATEMENT

When I think about what moves me to create art, as a painter and songwriter,
for me it is a distillation of my experiences, of the stories and landscapes of
this island. I use the imagery of traditional music, the beauty of it, the joy and
sorrow within it to tell my own tale using paint and words. I pen lyrics and
I have an overwhelming urge to visually express these lyrics in paint, be it a
‘blackberry bleeding on a briar’ or a ‘tempting tempest, raging sea’. ‘Continuum’
is an expression of my craft in its fullest form. I have distilled my creativity in
both music and art into one entity to express my narrative. Each artform has
influenced the other in this process and through colour and sound I aim to tell
the stories that are important to me.
